Trekking in Annapurna Region
The Annapurna region lies toward the north of
Central Nepal. The region has been recognized as
one of the world's best trekking trails
according to a recent survey by Modern Maturity
(USA). The highlights of this part of Nepal are
Annapurna Peaks, Mt. Dhaulagiri,
Machchapuchchare, River Kali Gandaki and several
other peaks. One of very famous pilgrimage site
which is known as Muktinath Temple for both
Buddhist and Hindus. Gateway to Annapurna
trekking region is the famous city of Pokhara.
The most prominent ethnic groups of Annapurna
region are Gurungs, Thakali and Manangba.
Animals found are Pika, Blue Sheep and Himalayan
Tahr and vegetation ranges from tropical to
temperate forest of oak, beech and rhododendron.
One can experience diversity culture and
tradition and see snow capped mountains like
Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Tukuche Peak,
Machchapuchchare, Hiunchuli, Lamjung Himal.
The popular trekking routes of this region are
Jomsom, Annapurna circuit and Annapurna base
camp, Annapurna foot hills, Siklis, Lamjung ,
Dhaulagiri, Upper Mustang and around Pokhara.
The best time to visit is during spring and
autumn. Unlike other part of Nepal, even the
monsoon months are ideal to visit to Upper
Mustang that falls in the rain shadow area. This
restricted area has its unique culture and
tradition which is very much influenced by
Tibetan people.
