Around The Himalayas Nepal :: Trekking Rafting and Adventure travel organizer in the Himalayan Region of Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan
Manaslu Trekking in Nepal

This trek was officially opened to tourists in 1991, but mountaineering expeditions have long had access to the area. Especially by Japanese expeditions, on attempt to climb Mt. Manaslu 8156m, every year from 1952 until the first successful ascent in1956. The area to the east of Annapurna massif contains the peaks of the Manaslu group. Besides Manaslu, the most prominent of the peaks are Boudha Himal and Himal Chuli, both of which can be seen from many viewpoints between Kathmandu and Pokhara.

This part of Nepal sees relatively few trekkers, which makes a visit here all the more unique and unspoiled. There are only a few established trekking routes but the opportunity for exploration is always possible. The area in question is bordered by two major River systems. To the east the Bhudi Gandaki River and to the west the Marshyangdi River. So the trail is rough and steep and it often hangs on high cliffs above the rivers. But this route is geographically very spectacular and culturally really fascinating. The upper Buri Gandaki River region is also known as Nupri (The Western Mountains), are direct descendants of Tibetan immigrants so their speech, dress, customs are exclusively Tibetan. Beyond this the Mountain View from Nupri are sensational and the crossing of the Larkela is one of the most dramatic of any pass in the Himalaya.

After the Larke La pass the trail directly descends through Dudh Khola (River of Milk) visiting some small settlements like Gho, Tilje and Thonje to join the main trail of Round Annapurna in Dharapani. After Darapani it is also possible to extend the trekking days, by Thorang Pass to Pokhara or Gale Gaun to Pokhara, to catch the Nepal's wealth of scenery and different cultures.
